Former Indian cricket Robin Uthappa killed Rajasthan Royals (RR) for the release of Jos Buttlera before the mega auction for the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025). Rajasthan on Wednesday 9th April lost the third game of the running season against Gujarat Titans (GT) because they failed to persecute the target 218 and lost 58 runs.
Following their loss of hammer, Uthappa challenged Rajasthan’s auction strategy and asked why they started from big stars like Jos Buttle, Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravicandran Ashwin. Rajasthan used all his six slots retention before mega auction when they retained Sanju Samson (18 crore), Yashasvi Jaiswal (18 Crore), Riyan Parag (14 Crore), Dhruv Jurel (14 Crore), Shimron Hetmyer (11 Crore).

“And I think it’s a place where RR was wrong in auctions.
In addition, Shane Watson also mentioned the camaraderie between Sanja Samson and Jos Buttler and expressed distrust of Rajasthan’s decision to let him go.
“The connection, which has Sanja as a leader with Jos Butler, has a huge impact in the group and its surroundings. So there are other factors, not only on your cricket performance in the field that add so much value, and therefore only blows me that Rajasthan Royals does not hold him,” he added.
Buttler has been part of Rajasthan since the 2018 season and played a key role in his run to the final in the 2022 season and scored 863 runs from 17 shifts. Over the next two seasons, he also played several major knocks, but surprisingly was not preserved before the auction. At Mega auction, Buttler was sold for an incredible RS of 15.75 Crore Gujarat Titans.
