US Health Minister Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will appear on Thursday (September 4) before the Senate Financial Committee, where it is expected that in federal health agencies it will face harsh issues about unrest.
The hearing invited to discuss the plans of Kennedy about the “re -state of America” comes in the middle of the growing fears of dismissal and planned budget cuts, which critics claim to undermine the ability of the nation to prevent illness.
Shakep CDC leadership
Kennedy can also be asked for events last week, when Trump’s administration burned down the director of CDC Susan Monarez less than a month to her work, which triggered several resignations at the highest level.
Monarez wrote in the Wall Street Journal that Kennedy had tried to weaken public health protection.
“I have been told to subscribe to the recommendation of the advisory panel of the vaccine newly filled with people who publicly expressed the antivaccine rhetoric,” Monarez said. “It is essential that the panel’s recommendation is not a rubber stamp, but instead it is strictly and scientifically reviewed before accepting or rejection.”
Bipartisan check
Senator Ron Wyden, the highest democrat in the committee, said that Kennedy must answer “chaos, confusion and damage to his actions to American families”.
It is also expected that the Republicans will press the Minister of Health. Senator Thom Tillis of North Carolina said he wanted to hear Kennedy’s confirmation statements with recent events.
“He has to align what he said during his confirmation process with what we have seen in the last few months, especially in the vaccine,” Tillis said.
Bill Cassids, a doctor and supporter of the vaccine, are also likely to question Kennedy’s decision.
A controversial decision of the vaccine
Kennedy, a long-time leader in the vaccination movement, announced in May that Covid-19 vaccines would no longer be recommended for healthy children and pregnant women, a step that was widely opposed to medical and public health groups.
In June, he replaced the panel of experts who advise the government on policy of vaccines with a hand -selected group, which included several skeptics of vaccines, with the exception of several long -term medical groups.
Requires resignation
The coalition of organizations for medical and public health, including infectious diseases of America, called for Kennedy to resign.
“Our country needs leadership that will promote an open, honest dialogue, not ignore the decades of science to save life, spread misinformation, reverse medical progress and decimation of programs that keep us safe,” the groups said on Wednesday.
