US Health Minister Robert F. Kennedy Jr. On Tuesday (May 27), he announced that COVID-19 vaccines are no longer recommended for healthy children and pregnant women, which is a sharp departure from previous instructions issued by public health authorities.
Kennedy in a 58 -second video published on X (formerly Twitter), said “I removed the recommendations of the Centers to check and prevent disease (CDC) for healthy children and pregnant women.”
The announcement came without CDC officials present in the video.
On the basis of requests for clarification, officials of the Center for Control and Prevention of Diseases (CDC) have referred all questions about Kennedy and the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), and and etc.
No support from the advisory panel so far
Policy change comes before the planned CDC Advisory Panel meeting. According to the report, it was expected that the panel would be considered on the recommendations of autumn boosters and that it was considering the offer of vaccines with high -risk groups, with individuals to give the possibility of a lower risk.
The RFK JR notification excludes this process.
Reportedly criticized the previous instructions that encouraged annual shots for children and stated: “COVID-19 shots were recommended for children, despite the lack of any clinical data to support this decision.”
Shift in federal policy of vaccine
The video was represented by the FDA Commissioner Marty Makara and Dr. Jay Bhattachary, Head of National Institutes of Health, both of whom support Kennedy’s movement.
This shift in policy is in line with other actions of Trump’s administration, which has become more and more shifted to the close capacity of the vaccine.
Last week, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that the approval of the COVID-19 vaccine will now be limited to seniors and younger individuals with basic health conditions, up to new studies.
Unanswered questions from HHS
Officials of the Ministry of Health and Human Services did not provide any further information on why the decision was now made, nor did they disclose the details of what data or consultations reported Kennedy’s notice.
Previous CDC instructions
Until now, US medical agencies have recommended annual COVID-19 boosters for all aged 6 months and older, referring to protection against serious illness. Kennedy’s reversal represents a dramatic change, especially due to his history as a prominent skeptic vaccine before his appointment of a healthcare secretary.
