The sudden death of Rob Reiner and wife Michele Singer Reiner sent shock waves throughout the Hollywood industry and sparked curiosity about the cause of their deaths. The couple was reportedly found stabbed to death in their home in Brentwood, Los Angeles on December 14. Official cause of death of 78-year-old ‘Princess Bride’ director and his 70-year-old wife revealed
According to documents released Wednesday by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, the beloved “This Is Spinal Tap” director and his wife died of “multiple blunt force injuries,” Page Six reported. Listed as one of the murders, the bodies were reportedly found hours after the accident, according to TMZ. It was their daughter Romy Reiner – the couple’s youngest child – who alerted the police when she found her father’s lifeless body on her parents’ property, then immediately fled the residence in shock.
The cause of death for both Rob and Michele was revealed hours after 32-year-old son Nick made his first court appearance since his parents’ deaths.
Speaking to reporters outside Los Angeles Municipal Court on Dec. 17, Nick’s attorney Alan Jackson said, “First and foremost, this is a devastating tragedy that has befallen the Reiner family. We all realize that. Our hearts go out to the entire Reiner family,” Page Six reported.
Claiming there were “very complex and serious issues” involved in the case, he added: “These need to be thoroughly but very carefully discussed and examined and examined and analyzed.”
He urged the public to refrain from any rush to judgement, adding: “We ask that throughout this process you allow the system to move forward as it was designed to move forward. Not with a rush to judgement, not with jumping to conclusions, but with restraint and dignity and with the respect that this system and this process deserves and that the family deserves.”
Alan Jackson further revealed that the City Court has set the arraignment date for January 7, 2026.
Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman said during Tuesday’s presser: “These charges will be two counts of first degree murder with the special circumstance of multiple murders,” Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman told reporters.
Emphasizing that Nick’s offense carries a maximum sentence of life without parole or the death penalty, he added: “He also faces a separate charge of personally using a dangerous and deadly weapon, namely a knife.” However, no sentence has yet been passed on the death penalty.
Hochman added, “These charges carry a maximum sentence of life without parole or the death penalty. No decision has been made regarding the death penalty at this time.”
Nathan Hochman further suggested that the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office take into consideration the “thoughts and wishes of the family” regarding the death penalty if Nick is convicted.
