“We caught a motorcycle because a million rider wasn’t wearing a helmet. Because it was only after the vehicle stopped, I realized it was Sumesh Malapppally, a well -known musician and long -time friend,” the official said. “He had Midangam in his hand and was on his way to give it to a friend.”
When their conversation was drifting towards their shared musical interests, the troops called them to provide an improvised performance. “That happened. He sang the song and I joined Mridangama,” Mr. Andrews explained.
Meanwhile, passers -by captured the video on the video and recorded it on social media, where he quickly became viral. The clip was shared with the headline: “The Carnatian musician caught by the traffic inspector that he had no helmet in Kerala. Because the inspector proved to be MRIDANGAM artist … Watch what happened next!”
But finely stored
However, music did not allow the rule of operation. As soon as the show ended, the MVD team issued a fine of 500 ₹ for violating the helmet rule. He also received an e-challan notification via SMS. Before he allowed him to leave, the MVD team made a short session of awareness of the importance of the helmet safety.
Mr. Andrews, beyond his duties for MVD, is also a professional percussionist. For years he has performed on instruments such as Chenda and Tabla and trains in Mridangama in the last year and a half.
Meanwhile, Mr. Sumesh is glad that the video has become viral and hopes to carry a message out of music.
“I’m glad he’s doing bikes online. If even a few people resemble the importance of wearing a helmet, it’s worth it,” he said.
