
The Palakkad First Class Judicial Court has issued an arrest warrant against Shafi Parambil, MP, in connection with the road blockade he led in 2022. The case was registered by the Kasaba police following a protest held in response to an attack by alleged activists of the Students’ Federation of India on MP Rahul Gandhi, Wayanad office serving as Mr. Param222.20 in June. Palakkad MLA at the time of the incident.
According to the prosecution, around 40 Youth Congress workers blocked the National Highway near Chembalode Bridge in Chandranagar on the day of the protest. P. Sarin, who has since joined the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)), has been named as the ninth accused in the case. Mr. Sarin has already appeared before the court and has been sentenced to a fine of ₹500 along with simple imprisonment till the court adjourns.
The court issued an arrest warrant for Mr Parambil after he failed to appear. The case is scheduled to be heard again on January 24.
