The Chittoor District Police on Thursday launched a helmet awareness campaign to intensify measures to reduce road accidents at Gandhi Bomma Junction.

The campaign was launched by Superintendent of Police (SP) Tushar Dudi. As part of this initiative, SP released specially designed posters promoting the use of helmets. Posters were later attached to autorickshaws to ensure continuous public visibility throughout the corporation.

Addressing the assembly, the SP emphasized that road safety remains the highest priority of the ministry, especially in urban areas where accidents are increasing. It found that most road accidents involved two-wheelers and autorickshaws, prompting the police to focus on targeted awareness and regulatory measures for riders and drivers.

The SP emphasized that the ministry’s approach went beyond strict enforcement. “Our aim is not just to issue fines, but to achieve voluntary behavior change through ongoing awareness programmes,” Mr Dudi said.

He also called for the active cooperation of automotive unions, stakeholders and the media to strengthen the safety message. Car drivers have been urged to advise passengers on traffic rules and road safety procedures.

“Road safety is a collective responsibility and a meaningful reduction in accidents can only be achieved through public participation,” said the SP.

Deputy SP (Chittoor) T. Sainath, inspectors Mopuri Maheshwara, Nityababu and representatives of automobile department participated in the programme.
