The Puttenahalli police have arrested a 34-year-old martial arts trainer and his wife for murdering a 24-year-old concert worker over a minor incident on a road in Srirama Layout, Puttenahalli on the night of October 25.
Darshan and his friend Varun G., both food delivery managers, were riding their bikes and wiping the side of the car’s mirror-shattering car. Terrified by the reaction, the pair fled the scene.
However, the now-arrested passengers in the car, Manoj Kumar (34), who runs a martial arts academy in Gottiger, and his wife Aarti Sharma (30), chased them for over 2 km. They deliberately rammed the car into the bike and escaped, even as the duo fell off the bike. Although they were both rushed to a nearby hospital, Arun was declared brought dead and Varun sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment.
The JP Nagar traffic police initially registered a hit-and-run case. However, on analyzing CCTV footage from the area and surrounding areas, the police realized that those in the car had turned around, chased those on the bike and deliberately rammed the bike. Not only that, the footage also shows the masked couple returning to the scene a few hours later and picking up car parts that fell in the crash to cover their tracks, police said.
The case was handed over to the Puttenahalli police, who tracked down the couple, arrested them and charged them with murder and destruction of evidence.
