‘Roachie’ crashes dinner at JW Marriott Mumbai: Cardiologist Dr Ashok Seth says he expects Tukaram Mundhe to act | Today’s news
The dinner at JW Marriott Mumbai took an unexpected turn after prominent cardiologist and chairman of Fortis Healthcare Dr. Ashok Seth spotted a young cockroach running around his table at Romano’s restaurant.
Dr. Seth was dining at a five-star hotel in Sahara, Mumbai, on Saturday night when he noticed the insects near the dishes. He shared the incident on X on Sunday, sarcastically referring to the unexpected guest as “Roachie.”

“Look who came unexpectedly to dinner. ‘Roachie’ – there was a baby cockroach on our table that wanted to share our dinner at Romano Restaurant at JW Marriott, Sahar, Mumbai on Saturday night!!!” published.
“Despite our persuasion, ‘Roachie’ refused to leave. Maybe he wanted pizza and not pasta,” he added.
However, the incident was more than a fun interruption for the diners. Dr. Seth said that the sight affected their appetite and they eventually left without finishing their meal.
“But he (the cockroach) really took away our appetite. We left.”

The post also prompted a reply from Marriott Bonvoy Assist, who said: “Hello Dr Ashok, Thank you for letting us know. We are taking this matter seriously. We would like to look into it for you. Could you please send us your first name, last name and confirmation number?”
Dr. Seth then tagged Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe and added another apt mention of the state’s ongoing efforts to promote food safety.
“Fortunately we are in Mr. Mundhe’s territory and he will most likely look into it as well,” he wrote.
He tagged Mundhe, FSSAI and JW Marriott in his post.
FDA intervention on food safety in Maharashtra
The incident comes in the backdrop of intensified food safety enforcement in Maharashtra under FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe. The FDA conducted more than 12,000 inspections, issued more than 5,000 improvement notices and suspended 603 licenses between June and August 2026, according to data reported by Mid-day.
The campaign included inspections of restaurants, hotels, food businesses and other establishments, with authorities highlighting issues related to hygiene, food storage and pest control.
JW Marriott on the contribution of Dr. Setha had not publicly responded at the time of publication. The incident alone does not establish the cause of the presence of cockroaches or indicate whether there was any violation of regulations at the restaurant.
