The Bihar unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday (November 15, 2025) suspended former Union Minister RK Singh and two other leaders from the party for anti-party activities. The party asked them to send a response within a week. Soon Mr. Singh resigned as a party member.
The show cause letter issued by BJP state headquarters in-charge Arvind Sharma said: “Your activities are against the party. This falls within the domain of discipline. The party has taken it seriously as it has caused damage to the party. Therefore, as ordered, you are expelled from the party and asked to explain why you should not be expelled. Please clarify your position within a week of receipt of this letter.”
On similar grounds, a show cause notice was issued to party legislative council member Ashok Kumar Agarwal and Katihar mayor Ush Agarwal.
Singh’s letter to Nadda
Following the announcement of the show case, Mr Singh wrote to BJP president JP Nadda that he was resigning from the party.
“I have received a letter forwarded by some members of the media (copy attached) that the party has decided to suspend me for anti-party activities and is asking why I should not be expelled from the party. The letter does not state what anti-party activities I have been accused of. I cannot give a reason against the charges which have not been specified,” Mr Singh said in the letter.
He further said, “The reason for the show is probably because of my statement against distribution of tickets to people with criminal background. The statement is not anti-party. It is in the interest of the nation, society as a whole and the party to stop criminalization of politics and curb corruption, but it seems some people in the party are not comfortable with it. I have given a reply to the BJP state office (I am copying the resignation of primary membership of Bharabytalo here). Party.”
A former IAS officer, Mr. Singh joined the BJP in 2013 and repeatedly attacked BJP leaders during the State Assembly elections. He even questioned the NDA candidates and accused the Nitish Kumar government of the ₹62,000 crore power scam in Bihar.
Statement against corruption
When Jan Suraaj Party (JSP) founder Prashant Kishor leveled allegations against Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, Mr. Singh supported him and appealed to people not to vote for people involved in alleged criminal activities.
In a post on X on Deepavali, Mr Singh had a message for voters that their vote would determine “the future of Bihar and our children”.
“If you want a bright future for Bihar and your children, I request you not to vote for anyone with a criminal background or corrupt, even if they belong to your caste. If all the candidates before you are corrupt or criminal in nature, give your NOTA vote,” Mr. Singh said.
He also mentioned the names of candidates in both the NDA and INDIA camps, saying that if the voters elect someone with a criminal background, Bihar would never develop.
Mr. Singh named NDA candidates like Anant Singh who contested from Mokama, Vibha Devi from Nawada and also Mr. Samrat Choudhary.
He stated that it would be better to drown in a pond than to vote for these people, saying that criminals and corrupt politicians are sucking people’s blood.
The BJP took the action a day after the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) swept to a landslide victory in the Bihar assembly elections, winning 202 of the 243 assembly seats.
