Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) Dal (RJD) a member of the Legislative Council (MLC) Mohammad Qari Sahaib claimed that he was subjected to a “digital arrest” for several hours in his stay in patna by cyber criminals who pretended to be police officers. On the basis of her complaint filed on April 10, the Stations for the Cyber Police registered the first information report (companies) according to the relevant sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhit (BNS), 2023 and the Information Technology Act (IT), 2000.
In FIR, Mr. Sahaib, who represents the Muzaffarpur district, said that 8 April received calls around 10:30 from an individual who claimed to be an officer from a police cyber unit in Mumbai. The caller allegedly accused him of participating in the Multi-Crore money case and fraudulent transactions associated with the Canara bank account in Mumbai.
To lend credibility to his claims, the caller allegedly quoted the fake case number and mention the mobile number connected to MLC. Mr Sahaib claimed that the fraudster forced him to reveal personal data, including his Aadhaar number and details of his assets. He also claimed that he was forced to sign an empty piece of paper.
According to a complaint calling Mr. Sohaib threatened with serious legal steps and warned him that he could be killed if he tried to leave his house or contact someone for help, and effectively maintain it by intimidation.
Raghvendra Mani Tripathi, a chief police officer associated with a cyber station in the patch, confirmed the registration of the case, said: “The police registered a MLC complaint and thoroughly investigated.”
