Rizwan plea dismissed by Lahore HC, PCB awaiting cyber agency report

The Pakistan Cricket Board will decide whether to initiate any disciplinary action against senior players Muhammad Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq after the Lahore High Court dismissed the wicketkeeper’s petition challenging the notice issued to him by the National Cyber ​​Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA).

Lahore High Court Chief Justice Aalia Neelum dismissed Rizwan’s petition during a hearing on Thursday after hearing arguments from both sides.

Advocate Qazi Umair Ali, appearing for Rizwan, told the court that notices had been issued to his client.

“You should go and answer the notice. When was the notice issued to you?” observed Chief Justice Neelum.

Appellant’s attorney responded that after Pan’s test, Appellant was summoned to the hotel lobby, interrogated without notice, and had his cell phone confiscated.

He further stated that the appellant handed over the mobile phone with the assurance that it would be returned after three hours; however, the phone has not been returned to the petitioner to date, which indicates bad faith.

Rizwan’s lawyer argued that the ICC’s anti-corruption unit was the appropriate forum to protect cricketers from corruption, and the matter against the appellant was not referred to the ICC’s anti-corruption unit.

In his petition, Rizwan’s lawyer challenged the NCCIA’s subpoena while challenging the NCCIA’s jurisdiction and the nature of the investigation.

A reliable source familiar with the development said the NCCIA is currently conducting forensic examination of the mobile phones recovered from Rizwan and Imam and will submit its findings to the PCB by next week.

“How the PCB decides to take action against the two players will now depend on what findings the NCCIA presents to the PCB. If nothing unusual is found in the forensic examination, they are likely to get a reprieve,” the source said.
