Indian batsman Rinku Singh’s father, Khachandra Singh, died on February 27 after a long battle with stage 4 liver cancer. He breathed his last at Greater Noida’s Yatharth Hospital where he was undergoing treatment for the last few days as his condition worsened.
Khachandra Singh was on ventilator support and receiving round-the-clock kidney treatment as doctors tried to stabilize him. Despite intensive care, his health deteriorated rapidly.
The heartbreaking development came when Rinku was with the Indian team at the T20 World Cup. After an initial trip home when his father’s condition worsened before India’s Super 8 match against Zimbabwe, Rinku rejoined the team in Chennai.
However, India Today has learned that the 28-year-old has now left the team camp again after being informed of his father’s death and traveled to Aligarh to be with his family.
His father had been battling liver cancer for some time, but the disease progressed rapidly in recent weeks and eventually led to hospitalization.
PERSONAL LOSS ON WORLD CUP DUTY
Rinku was not part of India’s playing XI for the Zimbabwe match as the team changed their combination for the must-win match. Sanju Samson and Axar Patel were brought in to adjust the balance, with Samson again slotted up top, Ishan Kishan moved down the order and Tilak Varma given finishing duties.
Although he did not feature in the starting eleven, Rinku remained involved with the team and took the field as a substitute during the match.
So far in the Rinku tournament, he has played five matches and scored 24 runs, contributing to his designated final role.
WILL THE rink PLAY THE REMAINING WC EVENTS?
With India set to take on the West Indies in the deciding clash in Kolkata, uncertainty now surrounds Rink’s availability for the rest of the tournament.
It remains unclear whether the 28-year-old will play any further role in the remaining matches of India’s T20 World Cup 2026, with no official updates from the BCCI or the team management regarding his participation yet.
As India prepares for a virtual knockout, the team will also rally around their teammate during this difficult personal moment.
