Human rights activist Raymant Antony says there are double standards in the country’s legal system. He pointed out that while his email complaint was rejected by the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) for lack of signature, another email complaint from a woman abroad was accepted by the police department despite the lack of signature.
Mr. Antony’s complaint to the SHRC, seeking intervention and action against those responsible for the amputation of a nine-year-old girl’s hand at the Government District Hospital, Palakkad, was dismissed by commission chairman Alexander Thomas, who cited missing signature as the reason.
“But the Home Ministry was apparently overzealous in accepting and acting on an email complaint against Rahul Mamkootathil, MLA, from a woman from Canada, despite the absence of any signature. If this is not a double standard, then what is,” asked Mr. Antony.
