
CEO Pandjab Kings (PBKS) Satish Menon revealed that head coach Ricky Ponting convinced most foreign players to stay in India. According to a report in PTI, all foreign players, along with the ponting, took a flight to return home on Saturday after the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025) was suspended. After India and Pakistan signed an agreement on the ceasefire, Ponting stepped out of the plane and also made sure that other foreign players also remained in India.
The Australian bunch of PBKS players such as Marcus Stoinis, Aaron Hardie, Josh Inglis and Xavier Bartlett were nervous as the tension of boundaries between India and Pakistan increased. Ponting, however, managed to reassure Pep Speech, which even left PBKS CEO Satish Menon in the amazement of his character.
“It shows the character of Ponting. He could only pull it out,” said Punjab Kings, Satish Menon PTI.
In addition, the source revealed that all Australian players were willing to fly back home, but Ponting was remarkably changed at the last minute.
“Foreign players are not accustomed to something (war as situations). It was natural for them to feel anxious. Stoinis, everyone wanted to leave first and of course. But Ponting convinced them to stay back after a ceasefire, which is considered remarkable,” PBKS PTI said.
South Africa Marco Jansen is the only player who flew home from Kings Pandjab. In Dubai, however, it passes and can therefore a rapid flight back to India.
