Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting showed Cameron Green’s support after a difficult start on site 3 in the Australian test team. Ponting, speaking after a series of West India, appreciated the resistance of versatile and growing maturity in position.
Green, 26, was promoted to place 3 for the first time on his return to the Australian test team during the 2025 World Championship against South Africa. It was a severe initiation, with the green score in the game that saw Australia fell to severe defeat.
Wi vs aus: 3. Testing Report
Green’s struggles continued in the first test against West India, where he was cheap on the spicy playground to 3 and 15. Despite this slow start, Captain Pat Cummins supported Green publicly and called him a “long -term option” for the key role of the highest order.
And as the series proceeded, Green began looking for his legs and scored 26, 52, 46 and 42 in the difficult conditions of bats to end up as the third highest runner in the series, behind the Travis Head teammates (224 runs) and Alex Carey (187 runs).
When he talked about the ICC review, Ponting said that Green’s performance in the final test of the West Indies series should silence some of his early critics.
“Cameron Green was said to be long -term No. 3 or not.
Ponting, who knows everything about paws on no.
“They weren’t easy to run. It wasn’t a flat track or a daily five courses with nothing in it. He was doing a little bit and Green showed a good discipline,” he said.
Top 3 in Australia under pressure
Looking at the Home Ashes series against England, which begins in November, Ponting believes that Australia is likely to stick to its top three of Sam Constas, usman Khawaja and Cameron Green.
While Green seems to settle in its role, instead of Consta is less certain. The 19 -year -old opened the debut against India at the beginning of this year and recorded a fast fire of 60, but since then he has tried for consistency. His tour of West Indies was particularly disappointing and only 50 runs returned in six shifts. Ponting, however, urged patience with the younger.
“I’m not going to do any really hard judgments for myself. It was a hard work for every dough in this series, there was no doubt.
The Ashes series begins on 21 November, before which Australia must settle its line -up. Australia is the current maintenance of trophies, won at home in 2020–21 and drew a series in 2023 in England.
