India wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh has been appointed Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in the West Bengal Police following her heroics in the Women’s World Cup 2025. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee personally handed over the appointment letter during a function organized by the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) on Saturday, November 8 at the Kolka Eden Gardens in Kolka.
Twenty-two-year-old Richa was also honored with the prestigious Banga Bhushan award from the state government. CAB presented her with a golden bat and ball along with a cash prize of Rs 34 lakh. In addition, the Government of West Bengal presented her with a gold chain, which was presented to her by the Chief Minister.

Mamata Banerjee said trailblazers like Jhulan Goswami laid the foundation for Indian women’s cricket and Richa Ghosh ensured that India finally ended its long wait for an ICC title. The Chief Minister added that while Richa deserves all the praise, it is equally important not to put extra pressure on her.
“Jhulan Goswami and all have done a remarkable job. Richa Ghosh and the team have made this dream come true. I congratulate them all – coach, team members, support staff and parents of all the players,” said Mamata Banerjee.
“Richa has just started her journey. I want our girls to always be at the top. Our Bengali girls have done well in football, swimming and archery. I believe our archers will bring home an Olympic medal. I expect big things from Richa Ghosh but we will not put any pressure on her,” the CM added.
Richa Ghosh was outstanding during India’s World Cup campaign, scoring 235 runs in eight matches at an average of 39.16 and a strike rate of 133.52. She lit up the Vizag crowd with a scintillating 94 against South Africa and followed it up with a decisive knock of 34 in the final against the same opponents in Navi Mumbai.
