US President Donald Trump plans to transform the program of the abolition of student loans, which, according to experts, can become an instrument for political retribution focused on organizations that serve immigrants and transgender youth.
According to the AP report, the Credit Cancellation program, the forgiveness of the public service loan enables government employees such as teachers and firefighters, plus many who work for non -profit organizations to be canceled after the payments have made for 10 years.
The revision of this program, on which the Ministry of Education is reportedly working, could benefit from organizations involved in “illegal activities”. The proposal of a proposal published by the Ministry includes the definition of illegal activities that focus on immigration, terrorism and transgender questions, reports in the report.
A tool for political punishment?
Several advocates of the prison to consider the proposal to worry, would give the subjective body to decide whether the organization is involved in something illegal – power that could be used to remove whole hospital systems or state governments from the program, said AP.

“For me, it is certainly an indicator that it is politically motivated and may be used as a tool for political punishment,” said Betsy Mayotte, President of the Institute for Student Credit Advisors and one of the supporters who asked for this policy to create the rules.
What is the program forgiveness of the loan?
According to the report, over 1 million Americans were canceled loans through the program, including nurses, university employees and park guards.
The program was founded in 2007 by Congress and its aim was to encourage universities to work in the public sector, where salaries are often lower than profitable companies.
The program promises to cancel all the remaining debts after the debtors make 120 monthly loans at work for any government level. Currently, non -profit organizations are also eligible if they focus on certain areas, including the right of public interest, public health or education.
In March, President Trump ordered the program in March and said “incorrectly directed tax dollars into activist organizations” that harm national security.
Trump ordered the Ministry of Education to remove organizations associated with illegal activities, selected those who work with immigrants or transgender youth, or those that support terrorism-bite, which often applies to pro-Palestinian activists.
Who could be endangered?
Federal databases of eligible non -profit organizations currently include some that grants Transgender grants to youth and their families so that they can travel to states that allow minor care for sex. It also includes some that provide legal services to immigrants regardless of their legal status, said the AP report.
The planned overhaul could potentially block a huge number of students from cancellations. Those who work for an ineligible employer could no longer make progress towards cancellation and force them to find a new job or give up forgiveness.

Needless to say, hospitals, schools and non -profit organizations could be at risk of blocking, if the loan forgiveness of the program passes through, the report added.
The proposal classifies “illegal activities” as “help or guidance” and supports any group designated as a foreign terrorist organization as “in violation of the Federal Immigration Act”. There are also violations of the 1964 Civil Rights Act on the list, and Trump’s officials have raised themselves to take root of diversity, justice and integration policy.
“Involtage in chemical and surgical castration or children’s mutilation” is considered illegal and “violates federal or state law”. The proposal says this includes the use of hormonal therapy or drugs that delay puberty and defines children as children under 19 years of age.
It raises concerns that whole hospital systems could be ineligible if one department provided some care of transgender youth. Likewise, the federal government could potentially reduce the advantage of whole cities that limit cooperation with federal immigration officials, as informed by AP.
“I have seen targeted whole cities and the whole civic structure,” said Alyssa Dobson, director of financial assistance on Slippery Rock University and a member of the Panel for Creation. It could also give an administration another tool in its campaign against universities that are developing in front of the President’s policy, she said.
