Revenue Minister Krishna Byregowda, who is also the minister in-charge of Hassan, reviewed the government’s programs in a meeting in Hassan on Wednesday and took the officers to task for not providing the information he sought during the inspection.
The minister was upset when officers from the Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Department were clueless about the agency that had built the veterinary hospital at Mudalahippe, Holenarasipur taluk. During his recent visit to the district, the minister visited the hospital and noticed that the building had no gate and there was no one to serve the public. He wanted to know if the gate was included in the estimate.
The police had no information about the agency that provided the work. During the meeting, they tried to contact their subordinates by phone. Expressing disappointment at the apathy of the officers, Mr. Krishna Byregowda asked them, “Does their behavior not reflect the inaction of the administration?” Arasikere MLA KM Shivalinge Gowda, who was also present in the meeting, intervened to suggest suspension of the officers for not providing information.
The Minister also expressed surprise at the functioning of the Department of Adult Education, which over the years provided education to only a few thousand people. He was unhappy with the statistics regarding illiterates that the department was supposed to cover.
Appraising the work of the school education department, the minister opined that the state government has started the process of increasing the number of Karnataka State Schools (KPS), which would be a major step towards providing quality education in rural areas.
HM Revanna, Chairman Guarantee Schemes Monitoring Committee, Naveen Raj Singh, Area In-charge Secretary, KS Latha Kumari, DC and others were present in the meeting.
