Adviser to the Telangana Government (SC, ST, OBC and Minorities) Mohammed Ali Shabbir stated that the Congress was the real architect of minority education in Telangana and said that the Telangana Residential Educational Institutions Society (TMREIS) was built on the basis originally proposed by the Congress government under the leadership of Dr. YS Rajasekhara07 Reddy in .
Speaking at Udaan 2025, a celebration ceremony for TMREIS students who have secured admission to MBBS, BDS and IITs, he said the BRS government has only renamed the model initiated by the Congress without investing in the permanent infrastructure that was originally planned.
He said the Congress vision includes permanent buildings with full facilities for students, while only 13 schools were functioning from their own premises, 17 from government buildings and 204 from leased buildings during the ten years of BRS rule.
However, the current Congress government led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has already identified 80 plots for the construction of permanent TMREIS campuses, marking a return to the original YSR Congress vision of the dignity of education for minorities.
A total of 50 meritorious students were felicitated at the ceremony, including 11 students who secured admission in IITs and NITs, 36 students in MBBS and 3 students in BDS courses. As a token of appreciation, the awardees were presented with laptops, certificates and mementos in recognition of their hard work and perseverance.
Minority Protection Minister Adluri Lakshman Kumar, TMREIS President Md Faheem Qureshi and Minority Protection Minister Md Shafiullah also spoke.
