Revanth ‘pulls out’ MLA due to lack of interest in MLC graduate polls

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy along with Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and other leaders of the INDIA bloc in New Delhi on Tuesday.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, who was busy leading the Special Intensive Review (SIR) Congress in New Delhi on Tuesday, took time out to review the MLC preparations for the graduates along with TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud, ministers and MLAs – who were also in the state capital.

Mr. Reddy revealed that the Congress Party’s protests against the SIR protests have captured the attention of the nation, including the educated section in Telangana, who have realized the deliberate erasure of votes by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its danger to democracy.

The educated section is looking for an opportunity to teach the ‘BJP/BRS’ combine a lesson, but the Congress party must speed up the process of enrollment and mobilization, he told party leaders.

However, he reportedly expressed displeasure over the disinterest of some MLAs in several districts. He stressed that voter participation was key to the party’s prospects and asked MLAs and MLCs to make the process a priority and not leave it entirely to the party organisation.

The renewed focus comes against the backdrop of the Congress’ failure to convert its 2023 assembly election victory into an electoral success in the graduate constituency contest. The party suffered a setback in Karimnagar-Medak-Adilabad-Nizamabad Graduates constituency in February 2025 when BJP candidate Anji Reddy won the election.

The upcoming elections in Mahabubnagar-Rangareddy-Hyderabad and Nalgonda-Warangal-Khammam Graduate constituencies have subsequently assumed significance for the ruling party. The Congress nominated Sam Rammohan Reddy for the former constituency and Ramreddy Sarvotham Reddy for the latter.

For Mr. Revanth Reddy, the election is important not only for the two seats in the Legislative Council but also for the political narrative surrounding his government.

A favorable result would help the Congress demonstrate that it retains support among educated voters as Mr Reddy claimed to have filled more than 60,000 government posts in two years, defying the 10-year rule of the BRS government.
