KHAMMAM
The 140-year-old Congress Party and the 100-year-old Communist Party of India (CPI) were at the forefront of India’s freedom struggle and now a united fight against the ‘fascist BJP regime’ at the Center is necessary to save India’s democracy and constitution, said Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.
Describing the BJP as the ‘British Janata Party’, Mr Reddy said: “The BJP follows a ‘divisive politics’ similar to the ‘divide and rule’ policy of the British.”
He was addressing a public meeting organized by the CPI on the occasion of the closing ceremony of the centenary celebrations in Khammam on Sunday.
Mr. Reddy shared the dais with a galaxy of top CPI leaders, including CPI General Secretary D. Raja, Telangana State Secretary and Kothagudem MLA K. Sambasiva Rao and foreign delegates from Venezuela, North Korea, Palestine and Cuba. Deputy Chief Minister M. Bhatti Vikramarka and Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao were among those present.
There was a friendly atmosphere at the venue of the public meeting as INDIA Bloc alliance partners – CPI and Congress leaders along with other delegates raised their hands on the dais in unison. Chants of long live the CPI from the “red shirt volunteers” rent the air.
The CM said, “All democratic forces should come together to fight against the fascist BJP regime, which is determined to destroy democracy and continue its authoritarian rule.
“Special Intensive Review (SIR) is a ploy to erase the votes of the poor and scrapping of MGNREGA is an authoritarian move. A united fight is the need of the hour to thwart BJP’s attempts to decimate democracy,” he added.
He read out the names of several CPI stalwarts and said that their inspirational leadership led to historic mass struggles in Telangana and elsewhere in the country to defend the rights of farmers and working masses.
Successive Congress governments enacted landmark laws that abolished the zamindari system and bonded labour, besides implementing land reforms benefiting farmers, labourers, the poor and other marginalized groups, he said.
