HD Revanna, a former minister and JD(S) leader, alleged that private lobbies had taken over huge tracts of government land on the outskirts of Hassan and were illegally developing floor plans.
At a press conference in Hassan on December 3, Mr. Revanna said that government lands spread across Chikka Kondagola, Erebare Kaval, Lakshmipura, Doddakondagula, Handinakere, Uddur, Samudravalli, Boovanahalli and surrounding areas have been developed into private schemes. Private lobbies developed the land in a joint venture with local people. They ended up defrauding the farmers and other local residents besides causing huge loss to the exchequer.
Mr Revanna said he raised the issue a year ago and asked for an enquiry. However, no investigation has yet been conducted. “I would like the Chief Minister, who will visit the district on December 6, to take note of this development, order an inquiry into the matter and take action against the officers concerned,” he said.
Swaroop Prakash, Hassan MLA, who was also present at the press conference, said he would raise the issue in the legislative session that begins in Belagavi on December 8.
