The National Confederation of Pensioners’ Unions (NCPA), an organization representing retired employees of Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and exempt Provident Fund Establishments, has written to President Droupadi Murmu urging her to address the delay in providing higher pensions based on higher wages.

In the letter, the pensioners said that the higher pension is no longer a moot point as the Supreme Court has passed an order on the matter and the Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) is creating unnecessary delays and bureaucratic hurdles to deny the pension.

The NCPA said the President must exercise her “august moral authority” and direct the Union Ministry of Labor and Employment and the EPFO to immediately withdraw the EPFO circular dated January 18, 2025. They alleged that the circular was designed to maneuver to account and nullify laws passed by Parliament through executive internal orders.

They also called for an immediate litigation audit to withdraw all “frivolous appeals” against settled Supreme Court rulings, ensuring that retirees from exempt facilities are not subject to structural or procedural discrimination. “Direct the adoption of joint pension options for higher wages without punitive interest penalties incurred solely due to EPFO’s administrative delays and the creation of a time-bound mechanism to provide immediate relief to aging pensioners,” the organization said in the letter.
