The irrigation department is likely to impress the restoration of the remaining 200-life meters of mullasset channel under the breakthrough of the operation only after the monsoon.
Out of the total number of 829 meters of the channel section, it claims that the irrigation department has completed a renewal of 625 meters. The section between the Chittoor Road and MG Road remains to be restored.
“Meanwhile, the priority will be the completion of the recovery of paths along the renewed segment of the channel before the onset of the monsoon. We hope that the restored part will help reach water near Ernakulam Ksrtc Depot and around Karikkamuri.
Mullassery’s renewal has already been delayed disproportionately and, on more than one occasion, attracted the reprimand of the Keral High Court. In February, the High Court ordered the authorities to complete the renewal work within three months, which would fail that the court would have to convene the district collector. The meeting, chaired in January by the mayor M. Anilkumar and attended the District Collector of NSK Umesh, reviewed the breakthrough of the operation – a project aimed at solving inundation in Kochi City – and by June released the irrigation department Ultimatum.
The schedule of work by May was also approved at a meeting that expressed dissatisfaction over the delay of the Ministry in the completion of the renewal process, which has been taking place in the last three years. The department was further issued to the Directive to prevent further delay.
“Restoring the remaining section involves crossing the Mg road. We will also have to coordinate with the Kochi Metro Rail Limited to ensure that no damage to the subway pillar is caused by any damage along the section. Because the usual excavation method that would be required to extend the road may not be taken It will be monitored if they were also accepted.
The department also revises estimates, as several emergency work had to be carried out during the project.
