“Securing the ideals of democracy and respecting the Constitution should be the most important duty of every Indian citizen,” said the deputy Commissioner Kavita S. Manniceri on Sunday.
She spoke after calling the cycling rally as part of the International Day of Democracy in front of the Sri Vijaya Church at the UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Vijayanagara district.
The event was organized together by the District Administration, Zilla Panchayat and the Ministry of Social Security.
Mrs. Mannikeri said that the UN General Assembly officially declared 15 September on the International Democracy Day to extend the awareness of democratic values around the world.
“Democracy, built by people and people, is not only a constitutional framework, but a living spirit. In India, it reflects not only the aspirations of the constitution, but also the collective aspirations of our lives,” she said.
CEO of Zilla Panchayat Nongjai Mohd. Ali Akram Shah said in his address that the day emphasizes the importance of democracy in administration, human rights, rule of law, freedom and equality.
“He also draws attention to challenges such as corruption, inequality and authoritarianism and reminds us of the threats facing democracy around the world,” he said.
The program began with flower tributes to Bedkar in front of Vijaya Vittal’s temple, followed by reading democracy.
Later, Mrs Manniceri waved the green flag to start a bike.
The rally, which began in Hampi, was attended by more than 15 cyclists and on Monday culminated in a vishan of Judge in Bengalur.
The riders went through Kamalapur, the Virupaksheshware temple, Gaddirampura, Malapannagudi, Hosapete City, and then continued across the national highway through Chitradurg and Tumacur before they achieved Bengalur.
The auxiliary commissioner Hosapete P. Vivekanand, Deputy Director of Social Security Ya Kale and officials from various departments at the district level were present.
