‘Respect issues of vital concern’: What NSA Ajit Doval told Chinese FM Wang Yi during talks in Delhi | Today’s news

National Security Adviser Ajit Doval has told Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi that there is a need to show mutual sensitivity on issues of “fundamental interest” as India and China look to rebuild ties.

Doval held talks with Wang in New Delhi this week on the sidelines of a conclave of BRICS security officials.

NSA Doval stressed that “stable, predictable and constructive bilateral relations will contribute to enhanced trust and deeper understanding between the two sides”, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said on Tuesday.

“The NBU also stressed the importance of consistently showing sensitivity to the core issues of others,” he said. However, Jaiswal did not elaborate on the underlying issues.

The spokesperson added that this would be in line with our overall approach of mutual sensitivity, mutual interests and mutual respect.

Renewal of India-China ties

At the meeting, both sides reviewed the overall situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). The meeting came amid efforts by both sides to restore relations that have come under severe strain following more than four years of military conflict in eastern Ladakh.

According to Chinese Ambassador Xu Feihong, Wang said at the meeting that as the two most populous economies, China and India should not only look at bilateral relations from a long-term perspective, but also promote cooperation between the two countries from a global perspective.

“Both sides should take concrete measures to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, promote their development and revitalization through cooperation, and accelerate the modernization process of the global South,” he said.

“Essential to respect each other’s basic interests”

“It is imperative to respect each other’s core interests, properly handle sensitive issues, and place the Sino-Indian border issue in an appropriate position so as not to affect the overall situation of bilateral relations,” Xu said on social media.
