When the dark clouds of the southwestern monsoon hover over the sky, members of ASHA Niketan, a nursing home for mentally attacked people in Nandi Bazar near Koyilanda in the Kozhikode district, are again worried.
The western side of the property was vertically cut for about seven meters without taking scientific or technical measures for the ongoing construction of the National Motorway-66 bypass roads connecting Nandi and Chengotticava, the authorities say. The building standing on the edge of this part was partially obtained for work. The remaining part is now on the verge of collapse and stands in an uncertain state. ASHA NIKETAN operates FMR (India), a charity organization, and now there are about 70 prisoners in the nursing home.
OK Premanandan, chairman of ASHA Niketan, told the Hindes that the supplier and the National Office for the India motorway (Nhai) had to provide any safety steps to protect the boundaries of their assets. “Parts of the property standing on the edge of the road are now slipping down. The soil erosion is due to the absence of any kind of protective wall on both sides of the acquired property. This has been experienced over the last few years,” he said. ASHA Nikhetan’s officials said that when heavy rains put the area between 23 May and 31 May, the prisoners had to be moved mentally to other safety buildings.
Mr. Premanandan said the Bypass Road had divided the property into several parts. “When the soil was gained, it was promised that the service trip to the Nandi bazaar would be extended to get into the facility. The narrow side road leading to a domestic home was destroyed during work. There is no access from the main road to residential buildings and other facilities on the east.
Three out of 10 acres owned by the home care were obtained for the work. The road is now going through the center of the property and isolating the eastern part, which has, among other things, residential buildings, administrative agency, workshop, classrooms and cow.
