Efforts to restore normal functioning of gas crematoria continue to face setbacks in Kozhikode district due to delays in obtaining required supplies. Although oil companies have assured that the problem will be resolved soon, it is still unclear when the supply will be delivered, although local administrators are now projecting the service as essential.
Officials of the health wing of the Kozhikode Corporation said that efforts are on to complete the maintenance of the electric crematorium at Smrithipatham near Mavoor Road in Kozhikode city. According to them, the facility can be operational within two days to resume bookings.
“Though the gas crematorium is now defunct, cremation services using the traditional method are available. Discussions are still on to resolve the issues related to the gas crematorium,” said the City Corporation health inspector. He also clarified that there is no move to close down the crematorium, though there are reservation regulations.
