Social worker Santoshirani Patil and BJP Mahila Morcha Sedam taluk president Shailaja Hittal have demanded the immediate removal of a liquor shop located near a bus stand in Karchkhed village of Sedam taluk in Kalaburagi district and installation of CCTV cameras in the area, claiming that the situation has become dangerous for women, male and female students who commute daily.
At a press conference here on Saturday, Mrs. Patilova said that the liquor store, which is located on the main road near the bus stop, is causing inconvenience and fear among the public. She alleged that people consuming alcohol often occupied the premises of the bus stand, creating an intimidating atmosphere, especially for women and students who regularly use the roads and public transport facilities.
Ms. Patil said that the frequent presence of drunk persons at the bus stop has become a permanent problem that creates an atmosphere of fear among commuters. She claimed that parents were increasingly concerned about the safety of their children, while women faced harassment and inconvenience while passing through the area due to harassment by intoxicated persons,” she said.
She alleged that the liquor store was owned by Anand Hadapad, a Congress worker and follower of Medical Education Minister Sharanprakash Patil. Ms. Patil alleged that despite several complaints to the authorities demanding installation of CCTV cameras at the bus stand and adjoining areas, the officials did not act due to political interference.
Setting a deadline, Ms Patil demanded that the liquor shop be shifted from its current location and CCTV cameras installed within two days, warning that if the demands were not met, residents and activists would stage a protest in Karchkhed village on Wednesday to bring the issue to the attention of the authorities.
