Police and security forces in Delhi on Sunday intensified patrolling and checking of vehicles in the capital and border areas in the wake of the Republic Day celebrations on Monday, PTI reported.
Similar efforts have been made by security agencies in Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana and the Union Territory of Chandigarh to ensure increased vigilance and prevent any untoward incident.
Security personnel are tasked with setting up multiple checkpoints at entry and exit points along with monitoring the movement of people and goods entering New Delhi.
They are tightening security measures in Kashmir
In view of the upcoming national event, tight security measures have been put in place in Kashmir, with a three-tier security blanket deployed around the Bakshi Stadium, the venue for the main official event in the valley, PTI officials said on Sunday.
Roadblocks and checkpoints have been set up on all roads leading to the stadium to enhance security. At the same time, several police officials and paramilitary personnel were deployed around the city.
Meanwhile, a complete Republic Day dress rehearsal was held at the stadium on Saturday, presided over by Divisional Commissioner Anshul Garg. The test took place under extreme security.
Police have intensified patrolling and vehicle checks in the valley to detect and avoid any attempts by anti-national elements to disrupt the Republic Day celebrations, the agency said.
Security in Delhi and neighboring states
Security in the national capital has been beefed up, with the Delhi Police using smart glasses and advanced facial recognition systems to tighten surveillance and improve detection of threats across the city.
Similarly, in neighboring areas such as Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh, security measures have been put in place at key locations such as bus stands, railway stations and district headquarters government buildings, PTI officials said.
Security has also been beefed up in and around places where Republic Day celebrations will be held, including places where dignitaries will unfurl the national flag, they added.
Checkposts have been set up at many places in both the states and vehicles are being checked thoroughly. Checks also took place at railway stations.
The Haryana Police has also increased security across the state ahead of Republic Day. Police officers keep a close eye on sensitive areas. Tight security measures have also been taken in Chandigarh, which serves as the joint capital of both Haryana and Punjab.
