Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has completed its topographic survey of its 1.90 hectare land in Kochi, next to its existing bus booth to create a new integrated bus booth, which would most likely share KSRTC and private buses.
The design is expected to be released soon for a bus booth, which would be expected to become approximately 12 crore, said sources. “Previously, a meeting headed by KB Minister Ganesh Kumar was held to prepare the foundations for the proposed bus booth complex. This was followed by a topographic survey whose report was handed over to the KSRTC headquarters a week ago.
The final proposal, including aspects such as the number of bus bays, is expected to be approved soon. According to the plan, the work for the project is to start in six months, they said.
The proposed bus stand would appear at one end of the eight acre land that the KSRTC owns in the heart of the city, less than km away from MG Road.
KSRTC decided to build the project alone after the plan for the CRORE 12 GBP source from Cochin Smart Mission Limited (CSML), could not take off.
Interestingly, the proposals for new KSRTC buses in four cities in the southern districts were completed a week ago.
The requirement for the renovation of the existing poorly maintained bus booth of the agency, which is flooded even in slight precipitation, dates back to more than two decades. According to the plan, the premises of the existing bus stand complex will be raised and a folded wall is built to prevent water from the neighboring canal to enter the premises. Preparatory work has begun and causes outflows, they learn.
The demand of non -governmental organizations
Ernakulam Vikasana Samity, a non -governmental organization, was among those who were loud in finding its renovation and the optimal use of a huge country owned by KSRTC. Its President of the KS Dileep Kumar spoke about how several thousand people were concerned a day due to the sloping state of the bus stand.
“At the ground floor level, little progress has been made, despite the subsequent governments that make assurances. KSRTC and the creators of the government decisions must learn how dozens of modern bus stands in the neighboring Tamil Nadu and Karenatation were built.”
However, there is a flash of hope, because the KSRTC has now completed the proposal for four new terminals in other cities in Kerala, he added.
