The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court directed the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR and CE) Department to report on the status of arrangements for singing Tamil hymns during the dedication of the Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple in Madurai.
The court was hearing an application filed by Tamil Rajendiran alias R. Rajendiran, who sought to direct the authorities to take effective steps to carry out the chanting of Tamil spiritual mantras and Tamil hymns along with Sanskrit at the Yaga Salai, Karuvarai and Gopura Vimaanam during the consecration of the Meenakshi temple in Bedareswarar in September.
