Jamie Gittens could be on the move this summer. The Borussia Dortmund winger might be available at a significantly reduced price if the club fails to secure a spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League, according to reports from German media.
Gittens, an England youth international, has had an inconsistent season. He started strongly, capturing attention with impressive performances and attracting interest from several clubs, including Chelsea. At one point, Dortmund reportedly placed a €100 million price tag on him to deter potential suitors. However, his form has dropped significantly since then, leaving his market value in doubt.
Despite Dortmund’s advancement to the Champions League quarter-finals, their domestic campaign has been underwhelming, with the team currently sitting in 10th place in the Bundesliga. This disappointing season has impacted Gittens, whose performances have been inconsistent, particularly following the departure of coach Nuri Sahin and the arrival of new head coach Niko Kovac. Once considered a rising star, Gittens has struggled to replicate his early-season form.
If Dortmund fail to qualify for the Champions League, the club may face financial pressure and could be forced to sell players to raise funds. This could lead to a potential departure for Gittens, who has been linked with a move to Liverpool.
Reports had previously suggested Dortmund could demand up to €80 million for the 20-year-old winger. However, Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg has hinted that Gittens could be available for a fraction of that price if Dortmund miss out on Champions League football. Plettenberg did not specify what “really cheap” would mean, leaving room for interpretation. Ultimately, Gittens’ valuation will depend on his performances in the remaining weeks of the season.
If his struggles continue, Dortmund may need to significantly lower their expectations, making the €80 million price tag—let alone the initial €100 million valuation—far from realistic.
As the summer transfer window approaches, Gittens’ future remains uncertain, with his potential availability at a reduced price likely to attract interest from clubs across Europe.
