Chelsea Aim to Conclude Summer Transfers by June, Focused on Squad Overhaul
Chelsea are determined to finalize their summer transfer activities by the end of June, as they look to make significant changes to Enzo Maresca’s first-team squad ahead of the new season. The Blues have already secured several deals, including the signings of Dario Essugo, Estevao Willian, Kendry Paez, Mike Penders, and Geovany Quenda. Now, the club is focused on completing the majority of both incoming and outgoing transfers before July.
According to The Athletic, Chelsea’s top priorities this summer are to sign a new centre-forward and a right-footed winger. Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap has been a long-standing target for the club, while wingers such as Athletic Club’s Nico Williams and Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens have also attracted Chelsea’s interest.
In addition to strengthening the squad, Chelsea are looking to streamline their roster, aiming to have between 23 and 24 outfield players for the upcoming season. This means several current stars are expected to depart. Players like Axel Disasi, Carney Chukwuemeka, Raheem Sterling, Joao Felix, and Ben Chilwell are all likely to be sold, while Renato Veiga, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Christopher Nkunku, and Trevoh Chalobah have also been linked with permanent moves away from Stamford Bridge.
2025 Club World Cup Influences Chelsea’s Transfer Strategy
One of the key factors driving Chelsea’s urgency to complete transfers early is their participation in the 2025 Club World Cup. If Chelsea reach the final, scheduled for July 13, players will return from their post-season holidays with just a couple of weeks to prepare for the new Premier League season. This tight timeline has prompted the club to ensure new signings are integrated into the team and involved in training during the Club World Cup, allowing them to adapt to Maresca’s tactics ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.
Chelsea’s ambition to overhaul their squad this summer is evident, and with time running out, the club is working diligently to secure early deals to ensure a strong start to the new season.
