Residents of several parts of Shivamogga are facing difficulties in getting drinking water due to technical glitches at the Krishnarajendra Water Treatment Plant. The water supply is expected to return to normal in a few days as a team of engineers and workers tackle the repairs.
Earlier on July 8, Shivamogga City Corporation and Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Drainage Board officers issued a statement that there was a leak in the clariflocculator, which plays a major role in water treatment. Water supply will be interrupted in certain areas until the repair is complete.
84 MLD of water is pumped every day in Tunga reservoir at Gajanur near Shivamogga for drinking purpose. A plant treating 22 MLD of water has developed technical faults requiring urgent work.

Shivamogga MLA SN Channabasappa visited the plant on Friday (July 10, 2026) and inspected the repairs. Speaking on the occasion, the MLA said that there is no shortage in the availability of water for drinking purposes. However, the supply was interrupted due to repairs. “The machines in the factory are quite old, some pipes are rusted.
Around 45 people are working to restore the machinery and ensure normal water supply,” he said. Shivamogga City Corporation has arranged tankers to supply drinking water to the affected areas, the MLA added.
Meanwhile, Congress MLC Balkhees Banu met Deputy Commissioner Prabhulinga Kavalikatti and appealed to him to ensure supply of drinking water in the affected areas.
