‘Rent Is The Price Of Freedom’: Vlogger Shares Top 5 Moments From Her Family’s Parenting Wisdom | Today’s news

A vlogger named Irene shared parenting moments that were not only different, but full of wisdom. Coming from a Malay family, Irene is a single girl who was born 10 years after her parents tied the knot and were in their 30s, which was unusual at the time. Irene highlighted the progressive and modern parenting approach that shaped her life and explained each of the five parenting moments in detail.

The first parenting style that influenced her the most was her parents’ belief that they would give her independence and freedom when she legally reached adulthood. “They were very clear that I had to move out as soon as I turned 18. Not because they didn’t love me anymore or didn’t want me around, but they wanted to know that I would be okay living on my own and they should be there while I was having this experience,” Irene said.

Giving an insight into her parents’ beliefs, she added: “The day I turned 18…..my parents sat me down and said listen, Irene, you’re 18 now, you can do whatever you want.” However, they made sure that she understood that choosing her partner for marriage should be judicious. According to Irene, her parents advised her to choose someone who was kind, generous, well-read, knowledgeable, and open to learning.

“And last but not least, remember that there is no room for class, caste and hyper-religious sentiments in this family,” she quoted her parents as saying, acknowledging the broad thinking that guided their policies.

Moving to the third indicator, she mentioned that she had “moved away” and encountered situations where she felt depressed. Although her parents are constantly checking on her, they want her to have her own space and freedom, allowing her to observe herself without involving others.

Irene’s parents were thrilled that their daughter had learned music. “Their logic was that you should be able to make a living from the talent you have,” Irene said.

Last but not least, she remembered a situation where she was overwhelmed by the amount of work she had to do herself and the amount of money she was paying for rent. When she called her parents to come home, the answer she got was most surprising: “Rent is the price you pay for your freedom, enjoy it as long as you want and move out whenever you want.”
