A 82 -year -old woman from China shocked a doctor after swallowing eight living frogs. It was her attempt to cure her chronic back pain.
An older woman, identified only as Zhang, suffered from a played disc for years. Then she believed in a folk remedy that indicates that eating living frogs could help relieve pain, according to South China morning post.
She asked her family to catch small frogs, every smaller than palm. But she didn’t tell them why she needed them.
Zhang swallowed three live frogs on the first day and five other living frogs the following day. Soon afterwards, intense stomach pain developed and could not walk.
Her family rushed her to the associated hospital No. 1 University of Hhejiang University. Doctors first excluded cancer. Later, however, they found an abnormal increase in oxyphil cells associated with parasitic infections. Other tests have confirmed the presence of parasites in its system, which were caused by living frogs.
“Frog swallowing has damaged the patient’s digestive system and resulted in some parasites are present in her body, including Sparganum,” SCMP quoted a hospital’s doctor because he told the media.
In China, strange and dangerous medical devices quickly spread online. In one case, a six -month -old child suffered lead poisoning after her mother soaked her hand in lead octan to treat eczema.
The mother found a method on social media. The doctors said the toxic lead later entered the body of the child through contact with the skin.
Zhang was released from the hospital after two weeks of treatment. It was again recommended by following dangerous traditional remedies.
Common among older patients
Dr. Wu Zhongwen is a head physician at an associated hospital No. 1 in Zhejiang University No. 1 in Hangzhou. According to him, such cases are common because many older patients try dangerous folk remedies.
“We have accepted several similar patients in recent years. In addition to swallowing frogs, some individuals have been consuming raw snake gall or fish bile or applying the frog to the skin,” Wu.
Many of these patients often hide their health problems from the family and seek help only when their condition deteriorates.
“For example, applying a skin disease to the body of a frog on the body. But there is no evidence to support this drug. On the contrary, this could allow parasites to enter the body, resulting in visual damage, intracranial infection and even life -threatening conditions,” Wu.
