Head journalist Dinesh Amin Matt said that journalists can easily get away after criticizing politicians in their reports, but in the case of religious heads they cannot do it.
On Saturday he spoke here on a press day organized by the district unit of Shivamogg in Karnataka Union of Working journalists (KUWJ), Mr. Matt said that journalists can easily criticize either the main Minister Siddaramahah, former main Minister of BS Yediyuppy, or former HD Deve Gowd.
“We normally believe that politicians are enemies of the freedom of press. But they are not. But religious heads do not take comments easily, regardless of which religion they belong to,” he said.
“Politicians hardly send reporters notifications of their reports. However, religious heads are not like that. Hundreds of YouTube channels have received notifications of stories that they recently made,” Mr. Matt said.
He stated that every part of society did not benefit freedom of expression. “Only politicians, entrepreneurs and religious heads have freedom of expression, while voters, workers, and real devotees lack freedom,” he said.
Sabha, a member of Shivamogg Lok Sabha, said that even after the arrival of social media and new media, he would like to read newspapers every day because this experience was strange to him.
