Trump Administration said on Thursday, May 29, that it could delay immediate steps to cancel the ability of the Harvard University to enroll among foreign students and instead decided to follow the longer administrative process, according to the new report.
According to a report in Reuters, the US Department of Internal Security (DHS) confirmed that it has sent Harvard a notification of the intention to download its certification under the Student and Exchange Visitor program (SevP), allowing university to host students outside the US.
The University of Harvard, a global symbol of academic excellence, is now on Wednesday’s confrontation with a high share with Trump’s administration over the US government’s decision to ban university from foreign students.
30 days to answer
Harvard rejected the accusation of Trump’s administration of conservative bias, anti -Semitism of the campus and alleged links to the Chinese Communist Party. The university, according to a report at Reuters, now has 30 days to formally respond to the announcement.
Hearing scheduled for a federal court
The announcement was issued before the scheduled hearing in front of the US District Judge Allison Burroughs in Boston, which was expected to consider Harvard’s request for an extension of the temporary cancellation.
Harvard warned that the cancellation of the Certification of SevP would affect nearly 6,800 international students – disturbing 27% of its student body – and “devastating” for institution and academic mission.
DHS quotes concerns about national security
This step towards the cancellation of the certification was first announced by the Minister of Internal Security Kristi Noem 22. Noem accused Harvard of “support for violence, anti -Semitism and coordination with the Chinese Communist Party”.
In a letter to Harvard Noem wrote: “It is the privilege to write foreign students and it is also the privilege to employ aliens on academic ground.”
Furthermore, it claimed that the university had not fulfilled the request for information on the holders of the students and their activities.
Harvard denies charges
Harvard also rejected the claim that he had coordinated with the Chinese government. In the court documents, his legal team claimed that DHS was trying to force the university to change the administration, curriculum and ideological composition of its faculties and students.
Trump calls 15% of the ceiling of foreign students
President Donald Trump on Wednesday (May 28) called on Harvard University to limit the acceptance of foreign students to 15%and criticize the school of Ivy League for showing a “big disrespect” for the United States.
“Harvard has to behave. Harvard treats our country with great disrespect and everything they do is deeper and deeper,” Trump said from an oval office. “I think they should have a limitation of about 15%, not 31%. We have people who want to go to harvard and other schools, they can’t get because we have foreign students.”

Financing reduces threats and other measures
In his escalation of attacks on Harvard University, Trump threatened to redirect billions in federal financing in business schools on May 26, accusing the Ivy League institution of anti -Semitism and protecting radicalized foreign students. In his contribution to his social media, Trump said Trump said “he is considering taking three billion dollars from grants from a very anti -Semitic harvard and giving it to business schools throughout our country”.
The day earlier, Trump criticized Harvard’s financing requests and said, “Harvard has $ 52,000,000, uses it and ceases to ask the federal government to continue to provide money!”
Trump also insisted that the university should provide a list of its current foreign students as part of the increased control of immigration and foreign impact in US higher education.
Trump’s administration froze over $ 2.6 billion to finance federal research on Harvard and moves to cancel the remaining federal contracts. Administration also focused on Harvard’s diversity, justice and inclusive programs, accused them of promoting left -wing distortion and proposed undressing status exempt from the University tax.
Harvard faces a growing pressure in the middle of a legal battle over these questions.
