Patients who have been waiting for months for surgeries and medical procedures at major government hospitals in Hyderabad may soon find relief as the Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS) in Sanathnagar will handle the long backlog of cases after it becomes operational. a hospital with 1000 beds, to be inaugurated in Ugadi – March 19 — is expected to handle the backlog of surgeries from the city’s high-volume government hospitals, where waiting times for certain procedures often stretch to months.
Telangana Director of Medical Education (DME) A. Narendra Kumar told The Hindu that Osmania General Hospital (OGH), Gandhi Hospital and Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) often have waiting periods of three to five months for certain treatments and surgeries. “Once the services at TIMS Sanathnagar start, these waiting list cases will be diverted to the new facility so that patients can get treatment while ensuring that the hospital starts functioning with a steady patient load. This way we will have patients and also do justice to the pending cases by clearing them quickly,” he said.
