On Thursday, the Rajasthan High Court temporarily stopped the probe against the Bollywood Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone in connection with the cheating case associated with the sale of the allegedly defective Hyundai car, the report on the bar and the bench said.
Justice Sudesh Bansal has also expanded their stay to include the CEO of Hyundai Motor India Unsoo Kim and the Chief Operating Director of Tarun Garg.
The case stems from a complaint filed by Bharatpur, which in 2022 bought the Hyundai Alcazar from the legitimate trading representation. After driving almost 67,000 kilometers, the owner said the vehicle had developed persistent technical and production problems. When the company refused to offer compensation or refund, it filed a criminal complaint.
The Municipality Court then ordered the registration of the first information report (companies), which concerned the crimes of cheating and criminal plot.
Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Unsoo Kim and Tarun Garg argued that their integration into the complaint was completely arbitrary and fueled by anger, and also noted that the complaint had not mentioned any recognizable crime.
“The petitioners have no connection or connecting to the sale of the vehicle concerned and do not deal with consumers’ complaints about repairing or producing defects in the sold car,” said the petition, as Bar & Bench says.
After considering the case of Rajasthan High Court, he issued a notice to the police and the complainant and suspended the investigation of the company. The court also proposed that the parties were considering mediation to resolve the dispute and order Hyundai officials to explore this possibility.
