Relief for panchayat secretaries as state government approves inter-district deputation

February 16, 2026

In a significant relief to hundreds of employees affected by the previous government’s decisions, the Telangana government has approved inter-district deputation for 223 panchayat secretaries who lost their local cadre status due to GO No. 317 issued earlier.

According to a memorandum issued on February 12 (Thursday) by Panchayat Raj and Rural Development (PR&RD) Principal Secretary N. Sridhar, the government has granted permission by releasing certain GO MS No. 190 instructions to allow these employees to work in their preferred districts for an initial period of two years. They will be accommodated on the basis of clearly available vacancies, regardless of their grade.

Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister Danasari Anasuya, who played a key role in resolving the long-pending issue, said the state government has taken cognizance of the hardship faced by panchayat secretaries displaced from their home areas. She said the decision came after detailed discussions with the associations and after directly hearing the concerns of employees.

“The Panchayat Raj department will become the first department in the state to introduce inter-district deputation under the new guidelines. Permissions are given on the basis of vacancies and administrative requirements across districts,” he said, stressing that the process is handled transparently and fairly, keeping the welfare of employees at the fore.

Panchayat Secretaries Association President P. Madhusudhan Reddy expressed his gratitude to the State Government and Minister Seethakka. This decision brings much-needed relief to us as we have been forced to work away from our homes and families,” he said.

Officials noted that the redeployment of secretaries closer to their native places will not only boost staff morale but also contribute to more effective implementation of rural development programmes. They added that it would take at least one month to complete the deputation exercise.
