Congress said on Thursday (July 10, 2025) that the Supreme Court’s proposal that the Electoral Commission (EC) should allow AADHAAR cards, voter identification cards and rationing cards in a special intensive revision (SIR) of Bihar in the case of “significant progress” in case of.
The Secretary General of Congress (organization), KC Venugopal pointed out that the Top Court would hear this case again at the end of this month and at the same time express the hope that the ES will go with the court.
“In principle, it is a relief for democracy. The case is again set at 28. This month,” Mr. Venugopal told reporters as he asked about the Supreme Court’s proposal.
He said the court asked EC to allow Aadhaar cards, ration cards and voter identification cards to identify voters during a special exercise was a big thing in itself.
“This in itself is the biggest thing from the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court has raised its opinion on ensuring that Aadhaar cards, assignment cards and electoral identification cards should be part of the verification process in a democratic arrangement. I think ES will go with this Supreme Court’s petition.
The leader of the party ABHISHEK SINGHVI, who is the main advisor to the Supreme Court for eight political parties, as well as the leader of the Congress Trinamool (TMC) Mahua Moit and the People’s Union for Civil Freedom (PUCL), said he would not work in this matter.
“It is enough to say that after extensive arguments the Supreme Court clearly suggested that three documents, namely Aadhaar, ID and assignment cards, will also be considered the process of listing. Until now, they have been hard to exclude throughout Bihar.
“It is a significant progress. All other merit remain open and the time for the answer and the glow was given by the end of July,” he said.
In the main question, Mr. Singhvi stated that their claims were significant and the court would be considered later.
“These statements include an important point that the assumption of competence and valid voters registration was first reversed by EC by the fact that all voters that have already existed after 2003 in a status of an animation unless they show their status,” he said.
In addition, the leader of Congress said that the court was claimed that the position should be proven mainly on the basis of a birth certificate either from a given person or any or both parents.
“It was also also argued that in citizenship and their determination, the EC had no jurisdiction. These and other substantive points will be considered in the next date of hearing after completion. It is a sub-judice exercise,” Mr. Singhvi said.
The Top Court on Thursday (July 10, 2025) allowed EC to continue with its Sir election roles in Bihar and call it a “constitutional mandate”.
However, the Justices Sudhanshu Dhulia and Joylya Bagchi have questioned the timing of the turn, except that they offer their prima facies to see that AADHAAR cards, voter identification cards and rations can be considered during exercise.
