Rehabilitation work on Kaleshwaram embankments to be started soon: Minister

February 2, 2026

HYDERABAD

Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said on Sunday that the rehabilitation work on the Kaleshwaram project dams – Medigadda, Annaram and Sundialla – will be started soon with close coordination between engineering institutions and project consultants.

In a review meeting held with officials of the department here, he instructed the officials to ensure that the testing schedules of the Central Water and Power Research Station (CWPRS) are closely aligned with the work of the designers, which will facilitate timely technical validation.

This synchronization, he said, would allow for the gradual approval of the proposal by the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) under the Central Water Commission (CWC), which would enable a speedy and efficient recovery process. He said a meeting with the NDSA expert committee would be held after February 16 and tasked the officials to prepare comprehensive technical proposals covering structural, hydraulic and rehabilitation aspects.

The minister told the engineers to continue under martial law to finalize designs, secure phased approvals and start rehabilitation without delay. The safety and integrity of the design must not be compromised at any stage, he stressed.
