Rehabilitation of Pariyathukavu: foundation for houses likely by July 16
A house construction plan for seven Dalit families at Pariyathukavu in Malayidamthuruth near Kizhakkambalam was handed over to beneficiaries under the rehabilitation package announced by the government after a long-running land dispute on Saturday (July 4, 2026).
Kunnathunadu MLA VP Sajeendran submitted a plan containing three different sketches for the proposed 1,000 sq.ft. home to families at a meeting held in the District Collection Chamber.
The most suitable plan will be finalized by July 6 and the district commission plans to lay the foundation of the houses by July 16, an official release said.
The homes will be built on five-cent lots, each allocated to seven families on a 2.69-acre lot where they are long-term residents. The plots were allocated to the families following negotiations at the government level after the family of the landowners won ownership rights to the property after decades of litigation. The government will build houses on designated plots using sponsorship funds, according to a settlement agreement announced on June 13 by Higher Education Minister Roji M. John.
