Domestic carrier IndiGo has processed refunds for all passengers affected by flight cancellations between December 3 and 5, aviation safety regulator the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said on Friday (16 January 2026).
“The DGCA is continuously cooperating with the domestic carrier IndiGo regarding the refunds and compensation provided to the affected passengers due to the operational disruptions from December 3 to 5,” it said.
“IndiGo has informed that all compensations for cancellation of IndiGo flights between December 3 and December 5 have been fully processed and transferred to the original source of payment,” the DGCA said in a statement.
Further, as an additional measure to support the affected passengers, the airline has extended a “caring gesture under which two travel vouchers worth ₹5,000 each with a validity of 12 months are being provided”.
Passengers are entitled to compensation under the DGCA regulations, which relate to “facilities” to be provided to passengers by airlines for “denied boarding, flight cancellations and flight delays”.
Meanwhile, complaints from passengers about not receiving refunds for “hundreds of flights suddenly canceled by the airline between December 2nd and 9th” continue to pour in on social media.
On 9 December, Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu told Parliament that “IndiGo has been directed to refund the money immediately and more than ₹750 million has already reached the passengers”.
Following the widespread disruptions to IndiGo’s operations, aviation regulator DGCA has set up a four-member committee headed by CEO Sanjay K. Brahman to conduct a comprehensive review and assessment of the circumstances that led to the massive flight disruption.
“We are not taking this situation lightly. We are conducting an inquiry. We will take very strict action not only for this situation but also as an example,” Union Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu said on December 8, 2025 in the Rajya Sabha.
The panel submitted its report to the DGCA on December 27, 2025.
On December 30, 2025, speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event in Bengaluru, he said, “The report has been submitted to the ministry. We are analyzing the report, taking further comments from the DGCA and will follow up on the matter.”
