Before the elections of the local bodies 2025 in Kerala, the Political Party called on the State Election Commission to reduce the number of voters to the election cabin.
The demand was filed at the Commission meeting on Saturday with representatives of political parties for review of the arrangement. Local authorities in Kerala are scheduled for the end of this year.
For local public opinion polls, polling stations in Panchayats have a maximum of 1,300 voters and 1600 for a polling station in municipalities and corporations. Political parties wanted a commission to prepare voters’ lists and organize elections to local authorities to avoid long queues.
They also attracted the attention of the Commission to the fact that the Indian Election Commission – responsible for elections to the Assembly and Parliament – limited the number to 1200.
The opposition Congress led by a unified democratic front (UDF) urged the commission to maintain numbers at 1100 in Panchayatts and 1,300 in municipalities and corporations.
Since June 30, 2025, Kerala has 2,66,78 256 voters in the election roles.
Electronic voting machines were first used for local voting in bodies in 2015. At that time, the polling stations in Panchayats had 1100 voters and in urban areas, 1,500. For election elections by 2020, the Commission extended the time of interviewing by one hour (from 7:00 to 18:00) and reset voters to 1300 and 1600. 1200 and 1 500.
At Saturday’s Political Party meeting, they also called on the Commission to provide new voters for more time to register their names in election roles. The Commission gave time from 23 July to 7 August to add new names to the list. Political parties asked the Commission to extend the deadline.
