A Reddit user shared a touching story about his Diwali encounter with a local delivery man. The user received a call from a delivery man who joked that he was hoping for a Diwali gift.
The user remembered the man’s regular help and transferred him ₹1000. The delivery guy called back and said it was much more than he expected.
“I said, ‘It’s fine, Happy Diwali,'” the Reddit user replied, assuming the delivery guy would get drunk with the money.
But what he found melted his heart. He received emotional messages and photos showing that the boy had used the money to buy an LCD TV on EMI for his family.
The delivery man thanked him repeatedly and called it his dream purchase.
“Thank you brother ji. The gift you gave me today, I am preparing a gift for my home. LCD. Thank you brother ji. Thank you very much,” the delivery person wrote.
The user realized how a small amount for one can mean a dream come true for another.
A Redditor wrote: “I don’t know the story if it was short ₹1k or what, I didn’t ask. But I’m so happy for him. I wish I could see his family’s reaction.”
“Even though I came from a middle-class family, I’m so privileged now that I didn’t think that ₹1k may be more for some. (I live in the UAE and usually pay AED 50 for a taxi). But thank God he put me in a position to create a meaningful moment in someone’s life,” the Reddit user wrote.
“I thought I’d share it with someone, so I’m sharing it here. Finally, if you can, be generous to someone,” he added.
Reddit users react
Many Reddit users reacted to the Diwali story.
“Post of the day for me,” one commented.
“There are too many people who are ungrateful or just don’t know how to express gratitude. Most Indians are not really good at expressing emotions and gratitude. But this guy looks genuine,” wrote another.
Another commented: “Nice OP, you made someone’s diwali a bit better.”
“Not all superheroes wear capes. Hats off to you bro,” another Reddit user congratulated the OP.
