
PM Ismail, Chairman of Consumerfed (Kerala State Cooperative Cooperative Coopemers Federation), said the Federation played a major role in controlling inflation in Kerala in this onam. This season, the Federation recorded sales of 187 Crore – 62 Crore more than the previous Onam season. In order to meet the festive demand, in addition to the sale through 164 Triveni supermarkets, 1,579 special Onam markets were established.
The consumer offered subsidies for 13 basic commodities, while other items were sold with discounts ranging from 10% to 40%. Rice varieties, such as Jaya, Kuru and Matt, were sold for 33 GBP per kg. Therefore, 9,536,28 tons of rice were distributed to 15 lacquer families throughout the state. Coconut oil was sold for 339 GBP per liter, compared to almost 500 GBP on the open market.
Several cooperative companies, including Milma, Raidco and Dinesh, also used the markets provided by the Federation for their sale onam.
